Cycle Ride 2018
Gaucher Charity Bike Ride 2018
SUNDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2018
After taking a year off we were pleased once again to host our London to Cambridge 60 mile bike ride on Sunday 16th September
We had 67 riders registered online to participate in this event; it was wonderful to welcome back many cyclists who return to support this ride year after year as well as many excited new faces.
The weather was kind throughout the day, the sun showed its face, in fact perfect cycling conditions. There was a real buzz at the start and we soon had everybody on their way, leaving London, making their way to Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge.
The 60 mile route was slightly amended this year taking in two new refreshment stops, where cyclists could refuel with plenty of fresh fruit, cereal bars, crisps and not forgetting the infamous cakes at the last stop. Cyclists arrived under a huge inflatable finish arch at Addenbrooke’s and were met by Professor Timothy Cox and Nurse Specialist Julie Chapman who kindly congratulated and adorned each rider with a finishers medal.
We must say a huge thank you to all our volunteers who helped to make the day run smoothly; from our marshals who kindly stood at key junctions on the road ensuring riders went the right way and cheering them on to those that helped at each water stop making sure the riders could refuel easily before going on their way. Special thanks to Liz Morris at Addenbrooke’s who co-ordinated our volunteers in Cambridge and arranged for the array of wonderful cakes to be baked.
Further thanks must go to Chris, Stuart and Simon from CSS who planned and signed the route and were there on the day as support for the cyclists. Janos the mechanic was very kindly driven by Malcolm, who was not too much in demand on the day, a few punctures and one gear cable change kept all riders on the road to the finish.
Our final thanks must go to everybody who took part on the day; feedback from those involved in the day has been excellent. This event has raised over £20,000 for the Association which was a tremendous effort.
