International Gaucher Day 2014

We would like to invite you to celebrate the first ever International Gaucher Day (IGD) by organising or hosting a coffee morning at home or at work with friends, family and
colleagues on Saturday 26th July.

IGD is the brainchild of the European Gaucher Alliance (EGA) based on an idea from the participants at Go with Gaucher 2012, a seminar for young adult Gaucher patients from
around the world held in Frankfurt, Germany.

International Gaucher Day will be celebrated in our 40 member countries, all of whom are organising special events.

Why the 26th July? This is the birthday of Phillipe Charles Ernest Gaucher, the French dermatologist who discovered the disease in 1882 while he was still a student. He would
be 160 years old this year.

What is the aim? The aim of the day is to raise international awareness of Gaucher disease and the slogan for the day is ‘Rare but Not Alone.’

How to celebrate
In the UK we would like to encourage all our members  to celebrate IGD by organising or hosting a coffee morning at home or at work with friends, family and colleagues on
the Saturday, as we are very fortunate and I believe have a lot to celebrate and be thankful for in the UK. Through the tireless work of the Association in partnership with
our doctors, commissioners, other healthcare professionals and the pharmaceutical companies, we now have nine dedicated centres across the country that care for Gaucher
patients, gives them access to treatment, a national homecare service and dedicated and committed clinical teams.

During your celebrations, don’t forget to take some pictures and send them to us!
