The Belfast, London and Paris Marathons 2023

In April of this year we were lucky enough to have runners take part in the London, Paris and Belfast Marathons. We were very grateful to all these amazing runners for taking part on behalf of the Gauchers Association. They all did a fantastic job and raised an incredible amount for The Gauchers Association and we cannot thank them enough.

Please see below an account of the Belfast marathon from Orla Haugh. Orla and Andrew Haugh unfortunately lost their beautiful daughter Ellen to Gaucher Type 2 in September 2022. They have been fundraising tirelessly to raise money for The Gauchers Association and at the end of April, Andrew and Orla's brother Damian ran the Belfast Marathon on behalf of the GA. They raised a phenomenal amount in Ellen's name and we are extremely grateful to them. We are so very sorry for their loss and are so grateful to them for their dedication to The Gauchers Association.

"Ellen Haugh, our beautiful daughter who passed of type 2 Gauchers last year inspired her daddy, Andrew and uncle Damian to run the Belfast marathon in April this year. For both it was their first ever marathon and Andrew ran with a 10kg vest on as this is the weight Ellen would have been if she had still been with us.

Andrew finished the marathon holding the 10kg vest above his head, carrying his baby girl the whole way.

With the generosity of our small seaside town of Kilkeel and our family and friends in Belfast we raised money for The Gauchers Association to allow research and support for type 2 families. Myself (Ellen's mum Orla) and Andrew feel so passionate about fundraising for Gauchers and look forward to continuing this journey."
